Self-Storage Tips
- Make sure to use a high quality disc lock to secure your unit. Regular padlocks can be easily cut with a bolt cutters.
- Do not store any hazardous materials such as gasoline, oil, propane, paint thinner, fireworks, cleaning products or the like.
- Do not store perishables.
- Do not put wood or cardboard directly on concrete. Also allowing a space between stored items and the walls improves ventilation.
- Use plastic totes with covers whenever possible.
- Heavy items should go on the bottom. Light and fragile items toward the top.
- To prevent mold prop open freezer and refrigerator doors. For maximum safety freezer/refrigerator doors should be removed.
- Cover mattresses and furniture with fabric sheets or plastic sheeting to prevent dust buildup.
- Leave a central aisle to walk through to the back of your unit.
- Label boxes/totes with contents. Mark fragile as needed.
- All breakable items (e.g. dishes) should be carefully wrapped individually and then secured in sturdy box or tote.
